I’ll grade you once you spell my name right.
I DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU SPEAK OF MR RICKSON.

mikerickson replied to your post: Suppose we bored a massive vacuum-sealed hole directly through the center of the earth to the other side of the planet, placed a solenoid inside it and dropped a magnet inside to induce a current. What would be the most efficient way to make sure the magnet doesn’t stop oscillating and the system produces a net gain of electricity?
Electromagnetic drag. That’s a new one for me, I’ll have to look into that. But basically you’re saying there’s no way this would ever be viable? 12-year-old me will be disappointed to hear this.

The proper term was escaping me at the time.

I’m afraid to say there is no mechanism available to keep the magnet moving and produce a net gain of electricity. The current generated by the magnet would manifest itself proportionally to the amount of electromagnetic resistance (drag) and would require an equal amount of power input to output. While there is no aerodynamic drag (assuming a theoretical perfect vacuum found nowhere in the universe) the electromagnetic drag would be sufficient such that the magnet would settle at the gravitational null point at the center of the Earth.
For an analogy to this predicament, take a magnet and drop it down a tube of ferrous metal. The magnet will not drop with the expected gravitational acceleration, but the magnetic drag induced by the moving magnetic field within the conductive material will generate sufficient force to counteract gravity.

You’re still in there?

YOURE STILL THERE?
Yes. There are 9 people in here now. We were talking about Polygamy and a super conservative mormon woman rage quite because one girl said fuck in a sentence twice.
It’s ridiculous.
mikerickson asked: I finally got my hands on the Rockets Red Glare discography and it's so good. Do you know any other bands like that?
I do not. I only know of them because I saw them play live a couple years ago. I think they said it was going to be the last live show they ever played together. It was so fucking amazing. My friends and I just could not stay for the headliners because compared to RRG they were complete shit to our ears. It took 2 weeks for my face to solidify after they melted it off with their sick tunes.
Also, where did you find this discography? I’ve never had luck.
mikerickson asked: what's a arsenal?
The Arsenal is the best football club in the world.
The Arsenal is what I love.
The Arsenal is where I find my motivation.
The Arsenal is a family.
The Arsenal is everything.
mikerickson replied to your post: So.

Oh, I kept clearing a new line and then putting the break in. I didn’t know it needed a line immediately following it.
Fuckin’ Civils…

I can’t get it to work at all. I even tried doing it in Internet Explorer. TELL ME YOUR SECRETS, CANADIAN.

That wasn’t the first time you’ve done that either. Fool me twice, shame on me.
I use read more links for two reasons:
I have such a rewarding life.
mikerickson asked: Have you ever been to America? Where specifically?

I’ve also been to Raleigh North Carolina for my friend’s wedding last summer, Boston on several trips, seen far too much of Calais Maine for my liking, and a whole lot of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. That’s pretty much it though.
mikerickson asked: post n00dz. Or at least picture of yourself; people like seeing a face behind a Tumblr. And diversify your posts, too; I have people who started following me because of a single post and have told me so.
HAVE YOU NOT SEEN HOW MANY PICTURES OF MY FACE ARE ON THIS BLOG?!
Alternatively: I suppose I could start tagging my posts. I understand that is how people come across things these days.
mikerickson asked: Why are you just getting home now? Do you have a "real" job now? I thought you were still doing grad school work with your advisors/professors?
Graduate School Knows No Hours!

Dear lord. I wish my work computer had more than 4 GB of RAM.
LOL this is my personal laptop.
My work computer has 24 GB of RAM and we’re buying a new CFD machine with 48GB of DDR3 Triple Channel RAM, Dual Hexcore Xeons.
mikerickson asked: Is Krista moving to Ottawa this summer as a temporary thing or permanently? Doesn't she still have school in Toronto?
It’s a temporary thing. She’s got another year of school to go after this one.
