But the reason for the season is the Earth’s 23 degree axial tilt. Less sunlight hits the Northern Hemisphere during the Fall and Winter months directly and thus transfers less heat energy to the Earth’s surface. This results in chilly temperatures during the winter months, and warmer temperatures during the summer.
